Parkrun #14: Sixfields Upton Country Park

Published on 12 November 2024 at 15:50

01/07/2023: Lee and I decided to go to another one of our local Parkruns the week following Irchester, this time it was Sixfields Upton Country Parkrun, which is in the not to big shadow of the Hallowed turf that is Sixfields Stadium, the home of the mighty Northampton Town FC. With a parkrun being so close to our football club it was a really lovely feeling and the course also happened to be deceivingly very flat. With it being a country park, you would think that there would be hills, bumps and rocky terrain. Whilst it isn’t full on paths, the terrain is nice and as I say, very flat. This course takes you from a normal looking park, then past sheep fields, through the farmer gate, past his barns and back to the park, so you get everything within 2.5K, as the route is a 2 lapper.

The car parking situations is free, however not loads of spaces, although there is a lot of street parking near by too. A small walk from the car park to the start line, so be sure to leave a bit of time to walk over before 9am.

This run felt great and was the first time I felt that I’d paced myself well. I finished with a 22:14 which at the time was only about 30 seconds of my PB, the finish area is parallel with the 2nd to last straight so it was lovely having the faster runners cheer you once they had finished and also to cheer on the other runners once you had finished. Lee wasn’t too far behind, finishing in the region of 24 mins and then we went off for a maccies breakfast. And yes, Lee did have a much needed haircut about 2 weeks after this 😉
