Parkrun #19: Salcey Forest

Published on 28 November 2024 at 11:07

05/08/2023: Salcey Forest Parkrun was the next local one to be ticked off the list, and in any weather you can guarantee that it'll a muddy one... but that always means more fun right! The car parking ample, however not free but it's right next to the briefing area, so there's no chance of getting lost. I was welcomed with open arms pretty much straight away from the marshalls and RD's, lovely lovely community there!

There's a small walk from the briefing area to the start, just to make the distance exactly 5K as the finish is right by the car park where the briefing was. The course itself is fairly flat to be fair, it has many rocky parts due to it being in the forest however not many inclines. It is a proper trail course and is 1 lap, of which not many local Northamptonshire ones are, either being out & back or multiple laps, so it was a fresh change. I don't really have a preference over which I prefer, so it is nice to have a bit of a variation from time to time on the structure of courses.

The run overall felt comfortable and even ended with one hell of a sprint finish to take two people pretty much on the line (even though we all know Parkrun isn't a race... ;) ). The cafe is situated right by the car park too and is full of lovely staff and breakfast items. It is definitely a Parkrun with it's own full identity and have been back a few times since, one being the last of 2023. On this day I got 22:32, followed by a 22:14 the next week, back then that was pretty much above my average so I was very happy with those times.
