26/08/2023: This is what I would class as my first tourist Parkrun. As with all the others I had previously done, they had been within 20 minutes from me. So this was a cool one to do. I was up visiting my best friend who had moved to Birmingham for University.
Firstly what struck me is the beauty of this park. The lake in the middle is pretty much the centre point of the run and it is a lovely place to start the weekend off. This Parkrun is also widely populated, so make sure you stand a bit further back in the start than you usually would, otherwise you might get swept away with some of the much faster runners in the crowd. This was, and to date still is the largest parkrun I have done with nearly 700 people running. It was vast and it felt really nice to feel a part of that.
For me, the Parkrun wasn't my favourite in terms of course layout, purely as you do 3 laps, but all are different and it messes with you slightly. Lap 1 is a short loop of the lake, lap 2 is half the loop then an out and back which then sees you go an opposite way round you have just come. So it is a little disorientating but as ever, is filled with some really great people.
I have done this Parkrun twice and it was great to tick off, however I wouldn't rush back to do it again personally. However it incredibly popular and as long as you can conquer the very last hill, it could have PB potential, as the rest of the course is lovely paths terrain and fairly flat although as I say, the hill at the end can potentially be a bit of a killer.
