In January I did 3 Parkruns and started with a bang, as my first Parkrun of the year was on New Years Day. I was over in Brixworth with my girlfriend for New Years Eve, so the obvious choice of Parkrun would be 'Brixworth Country Park', a favourite of mine and one you can always count on being a great atmosphere with many families turning out for it. As usual, I forgot about the end of the course, so the first of 2 hills near the finish was a killer, however the 2nd wasn't too bad. Now I will say, I was so impressed with the turnout due to it being 1. New Years Morning, but 2. Absolutely pouring down throughout. I have to add, it started raining at around 9:15 so we were all round the course by then, but it really chucked it down, which I guess was nice for anyone over heating potentially! So with all of this said, it was crazy that it was Brixworth record attendance to date, at 220 runners, for a small village parkrun that is MEGA! However it has to be a parkrun tourism dream spot I am sure. Despite the weather and New Years, I came 8th with a time of 20:39 which I was very happy with. Brixworth is very rarely a PB course due to it's terrain so couldn't complain with that time at all. 01/01/2025.
A few days later I was down visiting my childhood best friend with my girlfriend and the 4 of us ventured over to 'Bedgebury Pinetum Parkrun'... potentially the hardest one I have done. It was a beautifully crisp chilly morning at -2C and it was the only Parkrun I feel that I didn't actually warm up during aha! But I really did enjoy the views through the forest. It was the second time I ran this one and they had to change the start slightly, meaning the end was a much bigger hill than before! I think this has to be the hilliest Parkrun I have done to date, I did somehow manage to bag a 3rd place last time I did this but I was not quite on the same form as back then, It was a good jog around the forest kinda morning, hitting 9th place with 21:36. After the 1st KM I realised my body just wasn't feeling a rapid run and was nice to actually take it easy for once! 04/01/2025.
With 2 weeks off Parkrun due to frost cancellations (down at -7C!!!!) and then a football weekend, we returned to 'Northampton Parkrun' for the first time in 2 months. I also managed to get an action shot captured by Lee who was volunteering (BIG UP THE HI VIZ HEROES). This was a very icy morning, which was heavily felt under foot at some parts of the run, but it meant for a bit of an entertaining time deciding whether to risk it or not. I took it fairly easy and got a nice 20:09 and a 16th place. 25/01/2025.
